1. Gather Your Tools
You’ll need a broom, bucket, paint roller, squeegee, and measuring cup.
2. Key Materials
Purchase a water-based epoxy kit, an anti-slip additive, and a degreaser.
3. Safety First
Since you’re working with chemical compounds, always wear safety gear, including glasses, gloves, and a mask.
4. Prepare the Garage
Clear everything from the garage floor and sweep away dust and grime. This process will take a couple of days, so be ready for curing time. Use a degreaser to tackle any oil stains.
5. Clean Thoroughly
Hose down the garage floor and let it dry completely. If stains remain, use a thick-bristle brush and some elbow grease or rent a high-pressure hose.
6. Etch the Floor
Once dry, apply an etching solution with a pump sprayer or watering can. This primes the floor for epoxy and will fizz upon application. Work in sections for full coverage.
7. Wait and Test
Allow 72 hours for the etching solution to cure. Follow your kit’s instructions to test for readiness.
8. Apply the Epoxy
Mix the epoxy and non-slip solution, working quickly. Follow manufacturer instructions, as epoxy dries fast.
9. Touch of Style
If you have decorative flakes for a stylish finish, scatter them over the applied epoxy. Allow a minimum of 24 hours for the epoxy to dry fully.
